Norman Dale Thompson

1939-2024

Norman Dale Thompson was born on August 31, 1939, to Ellen (Sandquist) and Norman Thompson in St. Helens. He enlisted in the Navy after high school, where he served 22 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He married Patsy Schoning in 1961 and they had two children. Heather Thompson was born in 1966 and Jeffrey Thompson was born in 1968. Later on he had the pleasure of raising his grandson, Norman Russell Long-Thompson. Upon retiring from the Navy he went to seminary and graduated with a degree in Theology. He served as a pastor in the United Church of Christ for 12 years and retired in Condon.

He enjoyed civic life and served as mayor of Condon. He became involved in the Veterans for Peace and attended a national conference in Washington, D.C.

He moved to The Dalles to be closer to his family and died on June 4th. He will be interred at the Willamette National Cemetery on July 5th at 10 am.
