Promising trend shows young workers filling majority of jobs
Solar and renewable energy projects have helped to bring more jobs to Gilliam and Sherman County. For the first time in a decade, a majority of jobs are now being filled by workers between the ages of 25-44 and aging workers are diminishing.
Finding work for young people has long been a cause for concern in Wheeler, Gilliam, and Sherman counties. It has been said that the biggest export for this region is its children.
But new data coming from the U.S. Census Bureau's Quarterly Workforce Indicators shows that the tri-county area is outpacing other Oregon counties and that young people are filling jobs.
