Letter to the Editor: Jordan Maley

To the Editor & Gilliam County voters,

I plan to vote “No” on the recalls for the following reasons:

1) Recalls divide and damage the communities where they happen. The focus on common goals and cooperation that is necessary to the success of rural areas is clearly affected by the partisan, angry disagreements that always accompany recalls. There is already evidence that working and even family relationships are being strained by the divisions this latest recall effort has created. We cannot afford to sacrifice the greater good that comes from working together, in order to satisfy anyone’s ego or personal desire for vengeance.

2) Rachel Boyer’s letter in the Times-Journal 3-28 edition tells us the issue is much more complicated than what the recall organizers would have us believe. Given Rachel’s financial credentials and the very specific nature of her findings about Gilliam County management outside the County Court, indicates the need for a deeper audit of all county elected official’s departments. This is the only way to clear the air about what has actually happened in financial management of the county budget resources. It is clearly necessary regardless of the recall and general election outcomes, so that the 2025 Gilliam County Court can move forward without lingering doubt about what they are inheriting.

3) The secretive nature of the recall movement should make all of us question the organizers’ motives. With the exception of the three vocal (and occasionally belligerent) “spokespersons”, the fact they have not been forthcoming in telling voters who they are, should raise suspicion. In addition, their practice of sending out anonymous, unsigned letters to postal patrons, as well as some of the known original recall organizers now either distancing themselves from or falsely denying any involvement in the recall at all, is an insult to the intelligence of the average voter. This cynical manipulation of their friends and neighbors, in order to achieve their own selfish objectives, is offensive and should be clearly rebuked.

For these reasons, I respectfully encourage you to vote “No” on the recalls.

Sincerely,

Jordan B. Maley, Condon
