Letter to the Editor: Lenn Ball

When you can't defend your policy or actions the only thing left is fear mongering and scare tactics. The common theme of the County Commissioner's and the Judge. We can't get a budget done or passed if we get recalled. The lights will all go out in our county, no one will get paid, the seniors will suffer, and you will not have law enforcement. This is simply not true. We have consulted several Budget professionals with a combined budget writing and adopting experience of over 50 years, 5 times the level of our County Court combined. This is fear mongering and bullying at its finest. This is the lowest form of scare tactics this Court has reverted to. Shame on them!

We have County Commissioner PAT SHANNON now advocating for changing our county government to a Charter form of rule; we are currently a Home Rule county now. His purpose for wanting this change is transparent.

1. Once again we lose our County Court Judge in a Charter home rule

2. Commissioners/County supervisors get an average pay of $236k a year in the home rule/Charter counties. The low is $68k and the high is $368k. No incentive there for PAT, right? There are two kinds of County Charter, Constitutional or Statutory, both forms do away with County Judge.

3. Let's not be fooled by PAT SHANNON. He has the same goal he had when he voted for Order 2023-01. That Order was found to be illegal and rescinded. Now the same-o-same-o, just another back-door on the voter's in Pat Shannon’s attempt to get rid of our County Judge and install a Board of County Commissioners.

This time a big pay raise will more than likely be involved for Pat Shannon. Also this would bloat up County Court and county budgets with additional new positions just like Financial Director and County Administrator. All unnecessary if we retain a Judge.

4. The primary duty of County Judge is Administrator. The duties of a Financial Director were taken from two of our elected officials, County Treasurer and County Clerk. We've had enough of Pat Shannon and Elizabeth Campbell Farrar trying to bend our County government to fit either Liz's lack of skill and desire to do her job or Pat angling for more power and money at the expense of our right to vote. We don't need to change our county government we need to change the current people in charge. Vote YES on Recall.
