Damascus Christian had been a thorn in the side of the Condon-Wheeler Lady Knights all year, since the State Class 1A basketball tournament in Baker City in 2013 when the Eagles defeated the Lady Knights by two points for the championship. All of their hard work through the year paid off when the Lady Knights mounted a well-calculated come-from-behind effort to defeat the Damascus Christian Eagles 57-52.

The student council of Sherman Jr/Sr High School will present the ‘Mr. Husky Pageant’ themed Mr. Husky Rocks the Decades. The event is March 18 and is a fund-raiser for local scholarships.

At a recent meeting of the Spray Rodeo Association, volunteers of the Spray Ambulance and area Emergency Medical Technicians were selected as grand marshals for the 2014 Spray Rodeo

Sixteen-year-old Katie Bacon of Ione has been selected by the Arlington Saddle Club to reign over the Saddle Club’s 52nd annual rodeo at Arlington this spring. The rodeo, a jackpot event, will be held May 1-2.

Winners of the annual Condon Chamber of Commerce’s Chili and Bread Contest were: Danny Hinton, youth bread winner; Tina Potter, adult chili winner; the Boys 4-H Cooking Club, youth chili winner; and Mary Bare, adult bread winner. They each received $25 from the Chamber.

Proud Papa Dan Schott announced that Margaret’s team defeated Chelsea’s team – that is to say that Gonzaga University where Margaret Schott is a student, defeated Stanford, where first-child Chelsea Clinton is a student, in the NCAA college basketball playoffs.

50 years ago

Jim Boyle, a senior from Condon at Eastern Oregon State College in LaGrande, has been the secretary of the EOSC Rodeo Club this year. A History major, Boyle is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Boyle, Condon.
