LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Lisa Helms

On behalf of the Condon Booster Club, I have a few huge thank yous to extend. First, THANK YOU to the community of Condon and beyond for all the support over the last several months. For people who don’t know, simply put, the Booster Club is a small group of volunteers (mostly parents of school age children) who organize and implement fundraisers every year in order to support athletics in the Condon School District in creative ways. So far this school year, the booster club has contributed to the purchase of banners and game day flags for both schools, helped purchase the new pep band platform at the high school and purchased spirit gear for fans to wear at games. The club also puts together goodie bags when teams/individuals make it to playoff games/meets and organizes community send offs as teams leave town. Finally, Condon Booster Club provides a scholarship to a Condon High School graduate every year and buys an ad in the yearbook.

This year, our three major fundraisers have been cake raffles at the basketball games, the community calendar, and concessions at the Condon Christmas Tournament. In all, the Condon Booster Club has profited just over $5000 this year with those fundraisers. While it takes volunteers to organize these activities, if you at-tended a game and purchased a cake raffle ticket, donated a baked item for the raffle or grabbed a hot dog at the Christmas Tournament, you too have helped support athletics in Condon and we really appreciate you!!

Second, we would like to highlight the Condon Community Pep Band. The pep band literally rocked the stands at several of the home basketball games this year. If you didn’t get a chance to witness this, you really missed out. The spirit and vibe they bring to our games is like nothing else. To top it off, when the Condon Boys Basketball Team played at the district tournament in The Dalles, in walked our pep band. Not only did they fill the Condon crowd and players with positive energy, several of the officials and other teams commented how special it was. The members of the pep band are volunteers in our community who like to play music and organize themselves to practice and play at games. They give up their personal time to make the experience of the players and fans at basketball games better than the experience at any other gym in our league. A big THANK YOU to each and every member of the Condon Community Pep Band.

Anyone is welcome to join the Booster Club. Watch Facebook for meeting dates/times or ask Robyn at the grade school how to get involved!

Sincerely,

Lisa Helms, Condon
