Sherman boys basketball sets school record with 21 consecutive wins

The Sherman County School varsity boys basketball team set a new school record for consecutive wins last week.

"I want to thank the basketball coaches, the volunteers and the fans for a great basketball season so far," Sherman Principal and Athletic Director Trent Kroll said Monday. "It's pretty exciting, our boys are 20-0 and our girls are 9-11 going into playoff week next week."

With a win against Lyle on Monday night, the boys team is now 21-0, with three regular season games left to play, head coach Max Martin said.

This is Martin's first year as head coach at the varsity level. He said he really wanted to highlight just how proud he is of the boys.

"They are very selfless individuals and always put the team before themselves, which I credit as a big part of why we have had the success we have had," he said. "It truly is a great group of kids, and it has been an absolute delight getting to be their coach this season."

Martin said he didn't want to speculate on their chances at district or state but instead plans to concentrate on their next matchup and not look too far down the road.

"We are focused on one game at a time right now, and I am excited to see how the next two weeks go," Martin said. "It has been a special season for these kids and really a special season for myself, as it is my first year as a head coach at the varsity level."
