Arthur James Scott, born February 10, 1929, in Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the beloved son of Roy Carlysle Scott and Lila Paine Scott and grew up alongside his six siblings: Dorothy, Sam, Evelyn, Grace, Virgil, and Tish.
Arthur was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Marie Scott (née Seale), and his second wife, Jackie Bryant Scott. He is survived by his children, Alison M. Scott, Janet V. Stephens, Carol E. Winter, Roy C. Scott, and Lucinda V. Clager, and was predeceased by his son, Arthur J. Scott Jr. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Catherine Stephens, Virginia Scott, Robert Scott, Lila Winter, Anna Winter, and Miles A. Clager, as well as his great-grandchildren. Art's grandson Daniel Winter died in 2019.
Arthur's professional life was marked by significant achievements in business and science during his tenure at Battelle Memorial Institute. He devoted over 50 years to a durable partnership with his brother-in-law and lifelong friend, Sam Seale at the White Elephant Ranch. Served on Cle Elum's City Council and CFO of the "Cle Elum's Coffee Club." A man of many talents, Arthur was a skilled carpenter, a world-class gardener, and an ok fisherman.
Art lived a long, fruitful life, full of accomplishments and overcoming devastating hardships. His resilient spirit always returning to the optimistic faith in all our abilities to leave the world better than how we found it.
Memorial services will be held in the spring of 2025 in Arlington, Oregon, where he will be laid to rest beside his first true love, Virginia.
